Cables1The great rugged cable diversity of type 7/8” commercially available represents a logistic challenge for the installers and end users of the same. The selection of the manufacturer of the cable also imposes the implicit selection of the supplier for the connector, being able in certain cases of not being an optimal combination.

Conscious of this problematic one, the SPINNER engineers have developed a solution that not only consists of a connector right for all the cables 7/8” offered by the main manufacturers, but fulfills all the strict mechanical and electrical requirements of the systems of movable communications. The result is the Multifit® connector, at the moment the unique one of the market that assures the compatibility with all the indented cables the 7/8” most common ones. It presents/displays manifolds advantages: economies of scale by reduction of stocks and independence of the manufacturer of the cable in the election of the connector.

Some cables used with Multifit® connectors.

Development of the Multifit Towards what cables it had to go oriented our Multifit®? How could the connector adapt to different geometries? And Which would have to be the mechanical and electrical specifications? Table 1 answers the first question with a list of compatible cables with Multifit®. Between some the differences are very significant beginning by their material composition that in cases is copper and another aluminum. The profile of the indented outside and its tolerances vary between manufacturers. For an inner conductor he is smooth whereas others present/display an indented helix in their interior. So that Multifit® is really usable is due to prepare the cable by means of a rectangular cut that one the connector and cable cores, being obtained a good contact independent of the used cable. The cables with helical soul present/display the extra challenge to present/display a diameter that defers much from cables with smooth soul. Nevertheless the special characteristics of the soul of special design of the Multifit® connector, combined with a flexible geometry, do possible to compensate those variations of sizes of up to 1.5 mm between souls. This almost represents a 20% of the total diameter it turns what it into ideal for a great number of commercial cables.

Perfect contact In order to reach the possible lowest number of IMP (Products of Intermodulation) the contact pressure has to be sufficient and its area clearly defined. It is obtained by means of an inner conductor in the Multifit® with cleared zones of contact. During the east connection profile avoids you cut, to scratches or deformations, favoring the perfect contact. It is more, this form of contact avoids eccentricities in the cable core. All these previous characteristics cooperate to guarantee a high stability of IMP and VSWR in static and dynamic conditions of work. With regard to the contact with the outer surface of the cable to say that it is realised by means of clips. The faying surface is adapted to the properties of the material, or this one copper or aluminum. These materials present/display different capacities from effort from compression and extension; the Multifit® connector respects these values and avoids breakage or losses of connection between metals. Of this form SPINNER it has selected a bridle of connection similar to which uses well-known companies good like Cut And Fit connectors.

Seal of the connector According to our point of view, the seal between cable and connector are more effective if the seal element is placed in the outer part of the cable. This means that the contact element must present/display the size and the geometry that the cable needs. The indented one of the cable defines its seal. For the Multifit® connectors, the transverse force provides the union with the cable. Due to the different diameters between cables and profiles an element of “intelligent” seal has been designed, that in addition compensates the irregularities caused by the own weld.

Compatible cables with the Multifit® connector

Accessories: The development of tools of assembly for these connectors has been equally important: the tools for the cut and bare of the cover and the blade, provided along with the connector, guide the mountain range manual. These aid to the assembly must fulfill well their mission for all the types of cable: of a part not to damage it and another part to secure a perfect cut, which will have a decisive influence in the final VSWR of the set.
