ModulotapA passive optical monitoring device that uses a fiber optic coupler to split the optical signal into two outputs: one for real-time traffic and one for monitoring traffic. Real-time traffic continues through the system link, while monitoring traffic is sent to electronic monitoring ports. The Pretium EDGE® Monitoring Module uses an advanced optical coupler to reduce insertion loss and increase distance over Ethernet and Fibre Channel links.

Other passive optical monitoring devices are separate components that take up rack space, introduce additional losses, and limit network design options. The Pretium EDGE® Monitoring Module is the first to combine the functionality of an interconnect, cross-connect, and optical monitor into a single, easy-to-use structured cabling module.

Unlike a separate passive component, Corning’s integrated approach allows monitored ports to be added or removed without affecting the active network connection and provides the flexibility to use cross-connect and inter-connect designs. Furthermore, by locating the monitoring port links on the back of the module, the Pretium EDGE® Monitoring Module creates a zero-U footprint, improving rack utilization.

As part of the Pretium EDGE® Solutions family, the monitoring module is fully compatible with the same Pretium EDGE® Hardware as the standard module, enabling a pay-as-you-grow approach to future port expansion.
