The Smart Plug integrated circuit, typically found only in outlets, provides optimized signal detection capabilities, allowing patch cord transmission parameters to be perfectly matched to the Z-MAX outlet. This patent-pending technology enables the industry's highest guaranteed Category 6A performance margins when used as part of the Z-MAX 6A end-to-end cabling system.

Z-MAX patch cords with a PCB-based design also support the high-performance termination method called Zero-Cross™. This Zero-Cross termination eliminates split pairs, pair crossings, and the need to remove pair twisting to avoid increased signal noise and decreased performance, common characteristics of non-PCB-based RJ-45 connections.

In traditional connections, wire pairs are untwisted and inserted from the back of the connector into internal channels until they are fully positioned at the front, and then crimped using a termination tool. This untwisting of wire pairs along the length of the connector is unnecessary with the new Smart Plug Z-Max. Instead, the lead wires are terminated in IDC contacts at the back of the connector to maintain the wire twist at the point of contact. PCB pins connect the back contacts to the front contacts. The front contacts are factory-set on the PCB, eliminating the height variability caused by traditional crimping. Inconsistent contact depth can result in variations in the normal force between the output contacts and decreased performance.

Z-MAX Category 6A patch cords meet all standards and are compatible with any output standard based on the RJ-45 connector. They are available in both twisted-pair and solid-pair or single-ended configurations, in both UTP and shielded constructions. Multi-strand UTP patch cords feature a double-jacketed cable construction for excellent crosstalk protection and improved flexibility and bendability. Shielded multi-strand patch cords utilize high-quality twisted-pair cable for optimal transmission performance and noise resistance.

All Z-MAX patch cables feature a narrow cap design, optimizing adjacent patch cable placement and enabling use even in the densest connection environments. A cantilevered pin design further optimizes patch cable access in very dense environments by allowing manipulation of the pin slightly behind the connector. Removable color rings provide easy visual color coding, even when the patch cables are connected.

In addition to these unique Smart-Plug patch cords, the end-to-end Category 6A/Class EA structured cabling solutions include the Z-Max outlet, which offers termination times of less than 60 seconds for both shielded and UTP designs; high-density modular panels that offer up to 48 ports in just 1U; and high-performance Category 6A UTP and F/UTP cabling.
