Under this agreement, the participating companies face the technical challenge of creating optical interfaces that utilize 100 Gbps per wavelength technologies, thereby ensuring the optical interoperability of transceivers and interfaces produced in various form factors by different manufacturers. These new optical specifications are aimed at next-generation network equipment, necessary to meet the ever-increasing bandwidth demands of industry.
The new interfaces defined in the 100G Lambda MSA will double the speed per wavelength for 100 Gbps and 400 Gbps applications. To complement the 100 Gbps (100GBASE-DR) and 400 Gbps (400GBASE-DR4) interfaces with a 500 m range, currently defined in the IEEE P802.3 standard, the 100G Lambda MSA focuses on ranges of 2 km and 10 km over duplex single-mode fiber. With its focus on 100 Gbps per wavelength, the 100G Lambda MSA Group provides the technology platform required by the next generation of network equipment.
Founding members of the 100G Lambda MSA Group include Alibaba, Arista Networks, Broadcom, Ciena, Cisco, Finisar, Foxconn Interconnect Technology, Inphi, Intel, Juniper Networks, Lumentum, Luxtera, MACOM, MaxLinear, Microsoft, Molex, NeoPhotonics, Nokia, Oclaro, Semtech, Source Photonics and Sumitomo Electric.
