This long-term contract will allow Interxion to guarantee a supply of electricity at competitive prices, avoiding the volatility associated with market electricity prices. Furthermore, the agreement underscores the sustainability commitment of the specialized data center provider, which uses only green energy in its operations.
ACCIONA Energía will cover the supply with its renewable energy facilities in Spain, as part of its strategy to increase the volume of new medium- and long-term supply contracts and PPAs for corporate clients, as older assets reach the end of their regulatory useful life.
With this agreement, ACCIONA Energía strengthens its position as a key partner in Interxion's sustainability strategies. By using 100% certified green energy at its Spanish facilities, Interxion avoids the emission of 8,000 tons of CO2 annually.
Data centers are an essential part of the interconnection between services, companies, and users, and their role grows as the number of users and digital services increases. In this context of exponential growth in connectivity and data exchange, it is crucial to sustainably manage the high electricity consumption of the physical facilities where companies' servers are stored and connected, as well as to implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of their operation.
As part of its sustainability strategy, Interxion has joined the European Pact for Climate Neutrality in Data Centers and Cloud Services. The goal of this agreement is for the sector to achieve climate neutrality by 2030, and it defines the pillars on which CO2 neutrality will be achieved: renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy reuse, circular economy, and water conservation.
