The five companies are: Avago Technologies, Brocade Communications Systems Inc., JDS Uniphase Corporation, Molex Incorporated, and TE Connectivity.

The new CDFP MSA aims to specify and encourage the development and commercialization of a 400 Gbps hot-pluggable module integrating 16 transmit and 16 receive channels compatible with active and passive copper cables, as well as active optical modules.

Participants in the CDFP MSA want to facilitate products that are mechanically and electrically interchangeable. The project's objective is to specify the electrical, optical, and mechanical interfaces, including optical connectors and fiber-coupled cable connections, electrical connectors, cable guides, front panels, and PCB layouts. Furthermore, the MSA specification is expected to include design recommendations for thermal, electromagnetic, and electrostatic discharge.
