PMA is a leader in inductive wireless charging technology, with installations in many popular locations, including select Starbucks and McDonald's restaurants. They have also developed an Open Network API capable of transforming individual charging points into a manageable, global, smart wireless energy network. A4WP, the de facto standard for resonant wireless charging, has developed the industry's only sponsored magnetic resonance technical specification and is supported by a global product certification program under the Rezence™ brand.

This agreement creates a clear path toward industry consolidation by harmonizing technical standards that provide interoperability and enhance next-generation wireless charging.

The agreement calls for the following immediate next steps:
- The PMA adopts the A4WP Rezence specification as the PMA's magnetic resonance charging specification for transmitters and receivers in single-mode and multi-mode configurations
- A4WP adopts the PMA's inductive specification as a supported option for multi-mode inductive magnetic resonance deployments
- A4WP collaborates with the PMA on its open API network for managing network services.
"This announcement sends a comprehensive message to the industry to commit to and deploy wireless charging services now. The organizations involved, and the A4WP and PMA members, comprise the key developers needed to drive industry consolidation and create a viable, globally interoperable wireless charging ecosystem," said Kamil Grajski, CEO of the Alliance for Wireless Power.

The board members of A4WP and PMA represent a diverse group of industry leaders who unanimously voted to approve the agreement. Voting members included Broadcom, Gill Electronics, IDT, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics from A4WP; and Starbucks, Procter & Gamble, and Powermat Technologies from PMA.

“We have listened to and acted very deliberately on the overwhelming voice of the industry asking us to simply deploy wireless charging technology and bring superior alignment within the ecosystem. These two organizations are taking the necessary steps to get the job done,” explained Ron Resnick, CEO of the Power Matters Alliance. “They are combining the standards of A4WP and PMA to offer the best choice of core technologies and network management services, delivering a proper, easy-to-use, and comprehensive wireless charging user experience to consumers.”.

"The combined global market for wireless energy receivers and transmitters is expected to grow to 1.7 billion unit shipments in 2023, up from approximately 25 million in 2013," said Ryan Sanderson, associate director of energy storage and supply components at IHS Technology (NYSE: IHS). "This linking agreement will accelerate the interoperable wireless charging ecosystem, which is seen as vital to achieving widespread consumer adoption.".

This agreement demonstrates the commitment of both organizations to accelerate progress toward an interoperable global wireless energy standard. It sets the goal of having a commercially viable wireless charging ecosystem that delivers a true "drop and go" charging experience for consumers. A4WP and the PMA are leading this global initiative
