Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that exists in various forms. It occurs naturally in the earth and reaches the surface through cracks, eventually seeping into the interiors of buildings.

The collaboration follows the development of a prototype solution by researcher Alberto Alvarellos. This solution continuously monitors the presence of the gas and can predict potential changes, issuing alerts to existing levels. When these levels exceed a predetermined threshold, an alert is triggered to warn of the gas's presence before it concentrates and reaches levels dangerous to health. The project utilizes Sigfox's 0G network, which is available across most of Spain, including remote areas with limited coverage from traditional networks. Furthermore, devices connected to this network offer high autonomy and low energy consumption, enabling scalable and low-cost deployment. Additionally, due to the characteristics of the Sigfox network, Wi-Fi or SIM cards are not required, as it operates via radio connectivity, providing a safe and effective alternative, especially in rural areas or those far from urban centers.
