The two companies will jointly target customers in the industrial, logistics, and retail sectors, who will particularly benefit from the advantages of Industry 4.0 and the growing IoT market.
According to Volkmar Denner, Chairman of the Board of Management at Robert Bosch GmbH (Bosch): “This technological collaboration will allow us to offer our customers innovative solutions through the Bosch IoT cloud faster and more efficiently than ever before.”
For his part, Karl-Heinz Streibich, CEO of Software AG, added: “Our goal is to optimally combine Bosch’s extensive experience as an innovation leader with our expertise in cloud software. With this step, we are also reinforcing Germany’s position as a technological hub to further its global leadership in IoT and Industry 4.0.” The collaboration is based on a flexible joint innovation cycle using design-thinking methods to address the new requirements of IoT solutions and quickly deliver relevant, goal-oriented functionality.
Objective number one: Predictive analytics tools.
Software AG's leading platform, Digital Business Platform, will be a highly scalable component of Bosch's IoT cloud, with modules for real-time analytics. The ability to process, analyze, and visualize critical information for real-time decision-making is fundamental for data-intensive IoT solutions. The availability of predictive analytics tools, achievable with Digital Business Platform, is also a core objective of this collaboration. In turn, Bosch will use Software AG's in-memory data storage and processing solutions to enable real-time evaluation. For many partners and users, the scalability of Bosch's IoT cloud is a key element in delivering an open ecosystem. Software AG's universal messaging integration module, already used by Bosch, ensures seamless integration and smooth operation of all components.
Bosch is the only company in the world actively addressing all three levels of the Internet of Things. The company offers key integration technologies, such as sensors and software, while also developing new services based on them. The technology and services provider runs various Bosch IoT cloud applications for connected mobility, connected industry, and connected homes and buildings.
Smart Solutions for Manufacturing and Logistics:
For customers and partners of both companies, this strategic alliance translates into simpler and faster development, use, and commercialization of new Internet of Things (IoT) services based on Bosch's IoT cloud. The main benefits include the continuous functional improvement of the platform and the creation of new solutions, ultimately leading to a greater competitive advantage. Real-time data analytics, using environmental sensors and risk assessment systems, along with predictive analytics tools, provides the foundation and brings greater speed, efficiency, and safety to procurement, production, and logistics processes. Smart IoT solutions provide the necessary informational advantage and proactively help prevent inefficiencies in value chains. By combining sensors and real-time analytics components, both companies have created a joint application that, for example, reduces the need for testing in manufacturing. Based on sensor data, a decision can be made as to whether or not a part needs to undergo further testing to assess its quality.
