This acquisition will allow u-blox to expand its product range in the areas of Bluetooth® Low Energy, Zigbee, and Thread, as well as access additional market segments and channels. The combined short-range radio offering adds new modules targeting consumer-oriented markets, such as sports and fitness, while Rigado's existing customers will have access to all of u-blox's Wi-Fi, cellular, and positioning solutions for their IoT applications. Furthermore, Rigado's customers will benefit from u-blox's global support capabilities.
Going forward, Ben Corrado, former CEO of Rigado, will join u-blox's short-range radio product strategy team. Along with him, other key personnel from Rigado's module division have also joined u-blox, and Rigado's existing office in Salem, Oregon, will become u-blox's North American Short-Range Radio Engineering Center.
Rigado's Bluetooth module portfolio will be rebranded as u-blox and integrated into the short-range radio offering.
