A 40 Gbps submarine cable was laid in June 2012. The ASE will eventually connect major business centers across East Asia via 7,200 km of cable, with a total carrier capacity of over 15 Tbps. The ASE is being built by NTT Com, Malaysia-based Telekom Malaysia, Philippines-based PLDT, and Singapore-based StarHub. The total construction cost is estimated at approximately US$430 million.
