With general-purpose I/O and programmability in high-level languages, the robust IOT2000 series gateway is CE and UL certified and designed for continuous operation in industrial environments. It includes five 24V digital inputs and two outputs, as well as two selectable analog inputs offering 9-bit resolution and ranging from 0 to 10V or 0 to 20mA.
RS is the only authorized distributor of the open and flexible SIMATIC IOT2020 industrial IoT gateway, an Arduino-based device manufactured by Siemens that was launched in late 2016. RS has also recently signed a contract with Arduino to sell the IOT2020 on the Arduino.cc shop.
IoT2020 is ideal for educational purposes because it's a platform that facilitates learning in a very practical way. Furthermore, startups and makers can leverage this platform to develop professional applications and projects.
With multiple interfaces including Ethernet, USB, and micro SD, the IOT2020 gateway is compatible with open-source software such as the Arduino IDE and Yocto Linux. It can be programmed using high-level languages like Java, C++, and JSON.
The IOT2020 is also the subject of an ongoing competition on the Hackster developer community. Sponsored by RS and manufacturers such as Tektronix, Weller, and Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino, the competition invites engineers, makers, and students to submit innovative applications and solutions using this IoT gateway. The competition is now in its final stage and, after an extension, will close in mid-May. More information about the competition can be found on the Hackster.io website: https://www.hackster.io/contests/IOT2020.
Heiko Luckhaupt, Marketing Manager for the Industrial Sector at RS, commented: "The new SIMATIC IOT2000 module increases the capabilities of the IOT2020 and helps bridge the gap between the Arduino-based electronic prototyping environment and the world of industrial automation."
