The announcement coincides with the release of an update to Paessler's iOS 7 app. iPRTG is a free app for PRTG users; the latest version (3.4) features a new design with updated colors and improved rotation functionality for iPad. This makes it even easier to view detailed sensor information on mobile devices, such as monitoring results and events, statistics, data graphs, and maps.

Details about the updates:
PRTG will support the latest version (5.5) of ESXi, VMware's server software. This allows PRTG users to update their VMware environment without disrupting monitoring. Additionally, Paessler has implemented recent enhancements to VMware sensors, enabling PRTG users to monitor more servers and more elements on ESXi without requiring additional hardware.

Paessler will also be introducing a new integrated ticketing system for administrators who need to define a workflow for network issues identified by PRTG. As soon as an outage is identified, PRTG will create a ticket and email it to the relevant administrator. Then, if PRTG determines that the outage has ceased, regardless of the cause, the ticket will be automatically closed without any further action required from the administrator.

The ticketing system can also be used for other tasks within the administrative team. For example, PRTG will create a new ticket when it detects a new device or sensor through its automatic detection process, or if a new report becomes available. This new ticket must be acknowledged by the user. To facilitate collaboration, and like any other ticket management system, these tickets can be routed to other users or a group of users through PRTG for editing or resolution.

The two new sensors being introduced are: an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) trap receiver sensor and a Syslog receiver sensor. Both were designed for high performance in large networks.

Many network devices can be configured to send SNMP traps triggered by a variety of reasons, such as system events or outages. PRTG's new SNMP trap sensor will receive, filter, and respond to these messages. The Syslog receiver sensor operates similarly, but with syslog messages. Both
the SNMP trap sensor and the Syslog sensor have been optimized to receive and process up to 10,000 messages per second from multiple devices. The data is stored in a highly efficient database for later review and analysis, accessible through a simple web interface that allows users to drill down into the data as needed.
