The drawers feature two extension positions to enhance accessibility to the fiber optic modules they house. The drawers can also be fully extended, thanks to a novel, bracketless release mechanism for easier handling. Individual tray rails incorporate a spring element that gently pushes them forward when unlocked, providing improved grip and tray positioning. The unique spring-loaded system enables tool-free module installation from the front, rear, or top. Precise alignment of the modules with their supports is unnecessary, simplifying handling. IF trunk distribution heads can be integrated directly into adapter modules, whose corresponding supports ensure optimized handling. Interconnect cables are routed through neutral-height interconnect cable guides located at the front of each drawer.

In addition to the variants listed for fiber optic connection technology, VersaTray also includes the option for transmitting electrical signals. The specially developed 2/3 UH drawer houses Keystone RJ45 modules and Keystone modules for transmitting fiber optic signals.

VersaTray can be equipped with all standard couplers (LC, SC, MDC, SN®, MTP®, E-2000®) and combined with RJ45 Keystone modules. The pluggable units can be configured as 6x1/6 or 4x1/4 modules. Furthermore, the system offers maximum modularity for configuring individual cabling structures, whether for direct cabling, module cassettes, or splicing. It is also suitable for trunk lines with different headend diameters and can be expanded up to 4 UH.

In detail, VersaTray achieves the following port densities:

72 duplex LC or MTP® OCTO ports per unit height (HU), 24 ports per 1/3 HU carrier system;
144 SN® ports per unit height, 48 ports per 1/3 unit height carrier system;
216 MDC ports per unit height, 72 ports per 1/3 HU carrier system.
Modular system ideal for retrofitting.

The "pay-as-you-grow" principle allows for expansion with additional 1/3 HU, 2/3 HU, and 1 HU patch-level kits, as well as 1/4" and 1/6" tray-mount bracket options. Furthermore, easy retrofitting and retrofitting of patch levels is possible using the same 1 HU backbone bracket. The system can also be easily deployed to modernize existing cabling in data centers as part of modernization projects.
