In the aeronautical sector, the ELIO® range is present in the Airbus A330, A350, A380, and A400M. The use of fiber optics has become established in passenger entertainment and information systems that require very high data transfer speeds to the various individual screens, providing passengers with a wide selection of movies and video games.
The ELIO® design allows it to be integrated into different types of connector housings depending on the requirements: the circular MIL DT 38999 model or the rectangular ARINC for aerospace applications. It is also used in the railway sector with circular bayonet-lock connectors. SOURIAU fiber optic connectors in the telecommunications sector are found in GSM antennas and internet signal transmission systems for FTTA (fiber to the antenna) and FTTH (fiber to the home) links in building exterior connections.
SOURIAU will also add the ARINC 801 standard to its range of solutions, complementing the current standard range. This solution offers high contact density in a small space and is a very popular standard, especially in the American market.
Now that fiber optics has proven its reliability in classic applications, its use is expanding into more critical systems in the aeronautical, military and aerospace sectors, with the increasing use of sensors or even OptoPyro applications: it is replacing traditional electrical solutions.
