LC-XDwebLaunched at the 2013 FTTH Conference in London, the new connector is designed to significantly reduce space requirements.

The LC-XD fiber optic connector, available in simplex and duplex (uniboot) versions, handles up to 4032 fibers in a rack, twice the density of previous components. The connector is equipped with a rigid, extended lever that employs a push/pull mechanism (patent pending), enabling both higher density and more efficient handling. Vertical space and finger access to the connection are readily available for both installation and handling; the LC-XD connector, thanks to its rigid lever, also allows for remote connection/disconnection.

The simplex version of the LC-XD connector is designed for FTTH networks, where typically only one optical fiber per home is required. The connectors can be inserted in either direction and can be connected even with indirect contact. Huber+Suhner developed the LC-XD uniboot duplex connector primarily for use in data center applications. This connector allows for polarity reversal without the need for additional tools.

The LC-XD connectors are compatible with standard adapters, mini-LC adapters, and optical transceivers, according to the company.
