This telemedicine solution involves installing a teleconsultation center, equipped with medical examination and diagnostic equipment, connected to a hospital where specialist physicians will attend to the patient. Both locations will be connected via satellite through a high-quality videoconference capable of transmitting in real time the examination performed by the healthcare professional using various easy-to-use peripherals. This system allows for real-time monitoring of the patient's vital signs, examination of the skin, iris, throat, or ears, as well as the performance of electrocardiograms or ultrasounds, among other analyses.
Hispasat and Comitas-eHealth have a long history of collaboration and have worked together on several pilot projects that have demonstrated the effectiveness of this solution, the most recent of which was installed in Ecuador at the end of 2021. Comitas-eHealth provides the hardware and software, while Hispasat contributes its satellite capacity over the Latin American region. The satellite's universal coverage also allows this solution to be implemented on board ships to urgently address the health needs of the crew.
As Ignacio Sanchis, Commercial Director of Hispasat, explained, “We are fully committed to the social development of rural communities in Latin America through satellite technology. Comitas’ sophisticated technological solution, combined with the coverage provided by our satellite fleet, will guarantee access to comprehensive and reliable healthcare anywhere, no matter how remote.”
Aquilino Antuña, CEO of Comitas e-Health, added that “we are very pleased to have reached this agreement, since Hispasat’s leading position as a satellite operator in Latin America was the best option to deploy our solution in this region.”
