The first main switches for traffic exchange have been installed in the recently opened PAR5, which has interconnections with PAR1 and PAR2. The Force 10 Terascale E-series Ethernet switches can support 1.68 Terabytes of traffic per switch.
The France-IX initiative is backed by a large number of leading ICT companies, including Google, Akamai, Jaguar Network, and Neo Telecoms. This internet exchange point will consolidate public traffic exchange in the Paris region, providing the internet community with reliable and cost-effective interconnection options. Its Points of Presence (PoPs) will be located in several data centers within the area.
The installation of switches at Interxion's PAR5 data center will allow Interxion customers in Paris to reduce latency and traffic costs thanks to direct peering through the new switch. Meanwhile, the first members of the France-IX Neutral Point will be able to securely expand their application infrastructure in Interxion's new 8,000 m² facility. The expansion of PAR5, located in Saint-Denis, was officially opened this month. It offers approximately 4,000 m²of technical space and features a redundant 16 MVA power supply, enabling high-power-density environments as standard. Through existing dark fiber connections, PAR5 customers can also gain direct access to more than 50 telecommunications networks hosted across Interxion's multiple data centers in Paris. Furthermore, customers hosted in Interxion's other Paris data centers will be able to connect directly to the France-IX Neutral Point.
"The fact is that the first main switch, operational in the Interxion PAR 5 data center, brings the successful launch of France-IX even closer," comments Raphael Maunier, Technical Director of Neo Telecoms, one of the main drivers behind the development of this new Neutral Point. "Interxion's facilities will provide the space, power, and quality infrastructure that France-IX needs to succeed."
“The timing of the France-IX initiative couldn’t be better for future customers of our new, state-of-the-art data center in Paris ,” says Fabrice Coquio, Managing Director of Interxion France. “In addition to the many hosting infrastructure advantages offered by our data center, this agreement will expand what is already an exceptional range of connectivity and traffic exchange options . ”
"In our role as a sponsor of the European Internet Exchange Association, we are active promoters of Public Internet Exchange Points across Europe, and we are delighted to support this initiative," emphasizes Anthony Foy, Group Managing Director of Interxion.
