As Pablo Ruiz-Escribano, VP Secure Power & Field Services Iberia at Schneider Electric, explains: “We are experiencing a strategic moment for data centers. In this sense, our participation in Spain DC will allow us to contribute to the development of Spain as the next digital hub of Southern Europe and strengthen our role as a provider of integrated solutions for data centers, contributing our know-how to our partners.”.
The increased volume of data that data centers will have to process will drive an already intensive energy consumption. Therefore, one of the challenges for the sector is to reconcile its growth with sustainability goals.
Spain DC anticipates that the sector will attract €5 billion in investment to Spain over the next five years. A recent report from the association confirms these growth expectations: by 2026, Madrid could surpass Paris in installed capacity, one of the four cities that have led the sector in Europe to date, known as FLAP (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, and Paris). This will be possible thanks to an estimated average annual growth of 42%, almost four times higher than the forecast for the four main markets.
