The agreement also includes a significant provision of equipment to facilitate the creation of a dedicated laboratory for testing and replicating potential attacks. The multinational company, whose products, software, and systems are used in critical industries and infrastructure across the country, and INCIBE are thus strengthening a long-standing relationship of collaboration and exchange that will result in greater security and improved training for experts in Spain.
The agreement was signed in León by Alberto Hernández, general manager of INCIBE, and José-Emilio Serra, vice president of business development for Schneider Electric in Spain and Portugal, taking a strategic step in the creation of a strong Spanish ecosystem in cybersecurity based on collaboration and co-innovation.
With a forecast of more than 345 million connected devices in Spain in 2021, according to Cisco estimates, physical perimeter security is no longer sufficient and cybersecurity has become a central issue for infrastructures, especially in critical environments.
Currently, many control systems use open technologies or standards, which multiplies their potential and efficiency but in turn exposes control systems to vulnerabilities that were previously thought to only affect computers and computer systems.
“Despite all the advantages of today’s hyperconnectivity, it also leaves us more exposed to online attacks, so now more than ever we must coordinate to improve our defense strategies,” says José-Emilio Serra, Vice President of Business Development at Schneider Electric. “We are demanding new functionalities from traditional industrial control automation systems and integrating them with larger, connected systems. It’s not just about applying software or patching things up, but about changing a culture and a mindset from the ground up. Cybersecurity must now be embedded in all devices and extended to every point in the system, always based on the most demanding standards.”.
To detect and prevent them, coordination between all actors in the cybersecurity industry will be essential, to exchange information, knowledge and experiences in this field, such as those proposed by the agreement signed today by INCIBE and Schneider Electric.
