Telefónica's M2M technology will provide connectivity and other innovative digital services to JCDecaux's municipal information devices, digital screens and bicycle rental networks in Europe and South America.
These innovative solutions will allow advertisers to maximize the results of their advertising campaigns and bring these types of innovations, previously common only on the internet, to the outdoor advertising sector. In the case of outdoor advertising, Telefónica's M2M technology facilitates the transmission and reception of pre-recorded or real-time advertising content on digital screens.
In the case of municipal information panels, the messages they display can be managed remotely. This capability offers outdoor advertising companies significant cost savings in maintenance, as the remote management system provides continuous updates on the status of the panels.
Regarding urban bike-sharing networks, Telefónica's M2M devices enable the remote monitoring of various types of data, such as geolocation, mileage, and usage. Once received, the data is processed using different analytical techniques, thus helping public administrations and companies to manage bike fleets more efficiently and save on maintenance costs and even the potential loss of the bikes.
The growth rate and scale of M2M solutions is increasing very rapidly. In France, for example, there are four million active M2M connections, a figure that will increase exponentially. In 2004, there were only 92 million connected devices worldwide, a figure that contrasts sharply with the 20 billion expected by 2020, according to GSMA data. This continued growth not only represents a significant business opportunity but will also lead to improved resource utilization and efficiency.
José Luis Gamo, CEO of Telefónica Global Solutions' Multinationals unit, stated: “The agreement with JCDecaux will allow us to offer M2M solutions globally to the world leader in out-of-home advertising. Our solution is available for a wide range of platforms, including street furniture, bike-sharing networks, and digital displays. This represents a step forward in solutions of this type for urban environments that our corporate and international clients can manage.”.
Telefónica offers comprehensive solutions through its global connectivity solution in more than 40 countries across three continents. This connectivity is available in a wide variety of objects, from vehicles to street furniture.
