The 5GAA is a cross-sector partnership formed in September 2016 by stakeholders in the telecommunications and automotive sectors. The partnership will develop and promote communications solutions, support standardization, and accelerate commercial availability and global market penetration. Its objectives focus on improving mobile connectivity and road safety through applications such as automated driving, universal access to services, smart city integration, and intelligent transportation. Members comprise an ecosystem geared toward the smart internet of vehicles, including automakers, telecommunications operators, telecommunications infrastructure providers, chip suppliers, and automotive parts suppliers.

ZTE is committed to building a series of secure, open, and shared terminal-pipe-cloud platforms and its own ecosystem, all geared towards the intelligent internet of vehicles. ZTE offers secure, efficient, and universal wireless connections, an operating system platform, and in-vehicle devices such as the T-BOX 4G modules, on-board diagnostics (OBD), and Wi-Fi to address the required safety, control, and information needs. ZTE also has extensive experience in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS), with a wide range of solutions encompassing traffic control, transportation management, emergency telecommunications clusters (ETC), and information services. Furthermore, the internet of vehicles is a sub-ecosystem of the Global IoT Alliance, founded by ZTE and comprised of numerous industry participants.

High-speed 4G mobile networks are an excellent platform for the intelligent internet of vehicles, but this will be extrapolated to a broader ecosystem to make it operate more securely, reliably, efficiently, and flexibly with the arrival of 5G. ZTE urges the intelligent internet of vehicles to evolve towards 5G. During this stage, potential gaps and needs must be identified, and services such as telematics, traffic efficiency, and active safety must be developed step by step.

Bai Gang, General Manager of ZTE's 5G Products Division, said
, “ZTE is delighted to be part of the 5GAA. We are intensifying our efforts in key 5G technologies and making advancements in channel coding, massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), network virtualization, and slicing. All of these achievements will bring a new user experience to the intelligent internet of vehicles. As an enabler of M-ICT, ZTE will work collaboratively with other partners to promote the intelligent internet of vehicles and foster global cross-industry support.”
