Information on MNO (Mobile Network Operator) strategic plans for eSIM was collected by ROCCO during October and November 2017 to understand the roaming and interconnection industry today and to strategically assist the industry with relevant and valuable findings on the position of processes, industry challenges, and its suppliers.
107 MNOs from 92 countries provided confidential data and analyzed their plans and expectations for eSIM deployment by device type and region, as well as their intentions to support eSIM for inbound and outbound roaming. The mobile network operators also outlined the opportunities and threats that eSIM consumers pose to the industry.
The results indicate that from the MNO's point of view, the consumer eSIM could eradicate the need for international roaming in the next 3 to 5 years, suggesting that MNOs are aware of the evolution and are involved in projects to bring eSIM to market.
