Cypress introduced its new nvSRAM with I2C and SPI in March 2011. These new devices, now in full production with densities from 64 Kbits to 2 Mbits, are well-known in metering, industrial, and automotive applications. They offer operating frequencies up to 104 MHz for the SPI devices (3.4 MHz for the I2C products) and are also optionally supplied with an integrated real-time clock (RTC) that enables the continuous recording of critical data. These devices do not require a backup battery.

Cypress's nvSRAM is manufactured using SONOS's 0.13µm S8™ non-volatile embedded memory technology, offering superior reliability and enhanced performance. nvSRAM is an ideal solution for applications requiring absolute security of non-volatile data, such as electronic smart meters, PLCs, motor drives, electronic data loggers in automobiles, RAID systems, SSD systems, routers/switches for internet, consumer, medical, and data communication systems.

The nvSRAM family includes 2 Mbit, 1 Mbit, 512 Kbit, 256 Kbit, and 64 Kbit devices in multiple configurations. These devices offer superior performance with an SPI operating frequency of up to 104 MHz, SPI Modes 0 and 3, unlimited READ/WRITE and RECALL cycles, and 20 years of data retention. These devices are supplied in standard, small-size SOIC-8 and SOIC-16 packages, and both the wafer and the devices themselves can be manufactured at multiple sites to reduce supply risk.
