Now, Ruckus and ICX will become a business unit within Arris, led by Ruckus' current chief operating officer, Dan Rabinovitsj.
In addition to the carrier and WiFi companies, Ruckus had begun to move into cellular technologies, particularly for private networks, with an indoor LTE system called OpenG. Among other bands, this can run on the US's shared 3.5 GHz CBRS spectrum.
For Arris, the ability to incorporate a capable Wi-Fi service into its CPE and set-top boxes would be attractive to cable and telecom companies looking to leverage their broadband lines to add quad-play offerings. The broadband line could provide backhaul for a distributed Wi-Fi network that would be part of a mobile offering, giving customers access to Wi-Fi hotspots wherever there is a TV or broadband customer and broader access to national cellular networks through an MVNO agreement.
