The number of FTTH lines in Spain now represents 2.5% of all fixed broadband lines in the country.
The report reveals that the number of fixed broadband lines has grown by 3% compared to 2011, with FTTH lines leading this growth, accounting for 13.6% of the total.
The number of companies opting for this type of internet connection also increased by almost 70%, rising from 7,655 registered lines in 2010 to 25,340 in 2011. According to Esther Gómez, General Manager of Fibernet: “Despite the current economic crisis, infrastructure development continues. I am confident that this progress will contribute to boosting our economic growth. A World Bank study indicates that advances in the broadband market have a direct impact on a country's GDP—a 10% broadband penetration rate translates to approximately 1.5% growth. What is certain is that this is a latent need in both the business and residential markets, and the fact that technology companies like ours are working in this sector gives us a certain level of confidence in the market's development in the medium term.”
