The loan from the European long-term lending institution will be used to build an ultra-high-speed FTTH fiber network, with a maximum upload/download speed of up to 1 Gbps, open to all operators.

Reggefiber is one of the first companies in Europe to manage a large-scale FTTH network deployment. This project will increase broadband internet speeds and coverage in the Netherlands and will be implemented in 50 specific municipalities, with completion expected in 2015. Reggefiber's open network model allows end customers to contract broadband services through different providers.

In 2010, the European Investment Bank provided €142.5 million for the initial deployment of Reggefiber's services to 33 Dutch municipalities as part of a total €285 million installation.

Enabling investment in ultra-fast internet access to foster growth based on digital innovation is a priority for the European Investment Bank. Investment in super-fast internet infrastructure is recognized as a driver of economic development and a catalyst for unlocking productivity. In 2011, the EIB invested around €4 billion in this area within the European Union.
