The Elster V200 meters allow homeowners to manage their water usage wisely, while giving utilities the ability to provide smarter billing and better service to their customers. The meters integrate seamlessly into wireless home area networks (HANs), working in conjunction with other smart home energy devices to help conserve water, electricity, and other resources.
A ZigBee-to-IP wireless hub communicates utilization data back to the hub for its billing and service application.
The V200 combines Elster's proven smart metering technology, Ember's ZigBee chips and software, and a metering application developed with Freestyle's Microengine technology. Because the meters are battery-powered for easier maintenance and installation, the ultra-low power requirements of Ember's ZigBee chips were essential to the meter's design. The meters operate in a "sleep" mode most of the time, waking intermittently to communicate with the HAN and the central station. Consequently, Ember's ZigBee technology allows the meters to operate reliably and safely for years using low-cost batteries.
The V200 meters utilize the ZigBee Smart Energy (SE) profile version 1.1 to provide easy development, installation, and operation, as well as interoperability with the industry standard Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems and other ZigBee SE instruments. Elster can continuously improve and update the meters using the SE profile's live update feature.
Ember's ZigBee networked systems—chips, protocol software, and ZigBee tools—simplify the complexity of embedded software, networking, and RF for the development of low-power wireless products within a connected home, smart energy, and other remote control and control applications.
