Catalonia has been the region that has secured the most funding, thanks to the greater proactivity and speed of its municipalities. The program, across its three rounds, followed a first-come, first-served system, and 98% of the available vouchers were claimed within the first 60 seconds of each round. In the first round, 44 Catalan municipalities received funding, in the second 108, and in the third 15. Nationwide, 876 Spanish municipalities received €13,140,000 in funding across the three rounds.
The goal of WIFI4EU is for any public space—museums, squares, hospitals, government buildings, etc.—to offer free, high-quality Wi-Fi. In parallel, in 2020 and in accordance with the objectives of the Digital Agenda, all Europeans, wherever they live, must have access to quality Internet - a minimum of 30Mb - and 50% of the population, access to Internet with a bandwidth greater than 100 MB.
