Both the Torredembarra City Council (Tarragona) and the Olesa de Montserrat City Council (Barcelona) entrusted WiMAX Global Access with implementing the most suitable communications system for their respective towns. After analyzing all the possibilities, the operator recommended Alvarion's WiMAX technology in both cases, given the successes achieved in previous collaborations. "The most suitable technology for both municipalities was WiMAX wireless technology, as it provides high-quality, cost-effective, and easily installable services," says Darrel Singht, Head of Expansion at WiMAX Global Access. "Given the success of previous projects, we had no doubt that the best option was to use Alvarion's WiMAX products." Josep Pérez Moix, Head of IT and Communications at the Torredembarra City Council, adds that "the project's primary objective is to improve communication services for citizens and enhance communication between all the city council's official buildings.".

The internet connection provided by these new networks is of very high quality, offering a real speed of 3 Mbps, equivalent to 6 or 8 Mbps with ADSL. Residents of Torredembarra and Olesa de Montserrat will be able to enjoy these benefits at very low prices, with a full guarantee. The network consists of interconnecting municipal buildings into a single point of connection, making it easily expandable. In Torredembarra, 18 municipal buildings have been successfully connected, and the possible implementation of a wireless public address system is being studied. In Olesa de Montserrat, an IP video surveillance system is planned to improve traffic flow in the town and increase security. Furthermore, as a highly scalable infrastructure, it always allows for the addition of new services for residents.

Just a few months ago, WiMAX Global Access successfully completed the implementation of telecommunications networks in the municipalities of l'Arboç and Montmeló. In Montmeló, in addition to guaranteeing wireless broadband internet access, communications were improved at the racetrack that hosts various international motorsport events each year, most notably the Formula 1 Catalan Grand Prix. In l'Arboç, the main feature of the project is that, following the installation of the WiMAX network, the town has become the European municipality with the cheapest internet access, as users pay only €96.76 per year.

“Alvarion continues to offer the advantages of having top-quality communication systems to the municipalities that need them. With our latest projects, we have demonstrated our leading position, especially in Catalonia, where we have completed several projects in recent months,” says Gonzalo Savoini, Canal Director at Alvarion. “We hope to continue delivering the results demonstrated in these recent projects in the future.”.
