Cisco Umbrella is a cloud-native security service that operates on Cisco's global architecture, protecting against malware. The new deployment provides fast, high-capacity, and secure access closer to users. Cisco Umbrella includes DNS security, a secure web gateway, a firewall, and Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) functionality, extending protection to devices, remote users, and distributed locations anywhere.

In addition, Umbrella's hybrid multi-cloud infrastructure uses Anycast routing to intelligently direct traffic to the nearest data center, bypassing degraded or unavailable links and eliminating the need for customers to manage load balancers, configuration files, or routing policies.

Cisco Umbrella's data centers—including the new facility in Madrid—are located near major Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) to provide faster service. These carrier-neutral data centers are selected based on their ability to deliver the highest quality connections and services to the geographic areas they serve.

All Cisco Umbrella data centers meet or exceed standard security regulations, such as ISO 27001/SOC 2 and GDPR. The new Madrid data center uses 100% renewable energy and has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for sustainability.
