GBI's existing routing link strengthens Europe through the submarine network, reinforcing the network against cable cuts and other common industry hazards.GBI North's new route provides connectivity from the cable landing station at Al Faw in southern Iraq, across Iraq and Turkey to Istanbul, and from there to Frankfurt, Germany. GBI is the only operator offering seamless connectivity from Europe to all Gulf countries via the Mediterranean, Egypt, and the Red Sea, or overland through Turkey and Iraq. Activated
in February 2012, GBI provides much-needed additional capacity to the Gulf's first ring network, with routing to Europe, Africa, and Asia.
