The GCF certification program ensures interoperability between devices and networks, while also helping to reduce testing costs and accelerate time to market. Furthermore, both companies aim to bring together ecosystem stakeholders to support the mass adoption of IoT worldwide.
The first results of this satellite-cellular interoperability are expected by the end of 2023, allowing single devices to access two different connectivity modes (terrestrial and non-terrestrial).
The GCF recently introduced the 3GPP Rel-17 NB-IoT/eMTC specification, compatible with non-terrestrial networks (NTN), into its certification program. This will enable satellite Internet of Things (IoT) access from devices to address massive use cases in sectors such as agriculture, transportation, logistics, and many more.
According to Gianluca Redolfi, CCO of Sateliot, "this agreement represents a new recognition by the space industry of Sateliot's innovative technology, whose standard is destined to introduce a new paradigm in satellite telecommunications."
Sateliot and the Global Certification Forum (GCF) have signed an agreement introducing a standard certification to the satellite industry for the first time. This alliance, also the first between the GCF and a satellite operator, will accelerate the availability and commercialization of Sateliot's technology, which features IoT chips and modules certified to the 3GPP 5G NB-IoT NTN Release 17 standard for use by all operators.
