The TrueAuto LAN88730 high-quality transceiver has been specifically designed, manufactured, tested, characterized, and qualified to meet the high reliability requirements of the automotive industry. The device provides a simple, digital interface via MII (IEEE 802.3u) to a MAC layer integrated into a microcontroller. Built into the vehicle, the chip can function as a branch of the external network, connecting the car to a personal computer, a diagnostic tool, or a complex Ethernet network in a repair shop.
“When using traditional diagnostic interfaces today, data transfer between the diagnostic equipment and the car can be very time-consuming,” says Dr. Christian Thiel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of SMSC’s Automotive Product Group. “The new SMSC Ethernet transceiver provides high-speed data with our TrueAuto quality, delivering the level of reliability our automotive customers expect.”
Ethernet is a networking technology widely used in the IT infrastructure of repair shops. Its widespread adoption, high bandwidth, and optimized communication for bursts or packets of information make it an excellent connectivity solution for automotive applications. It can link the repair shop's external Ethernet-based infrastructure to a vehicle in a repair area, enabling the seamless transfer of large amounts of diagnostic information and software data between the two.
The LAN88730 transceiver is available immediately.
