The aim of this meeting was to present the key features and advantages of the new PROFIBUS/PROFINET automation standard, the most widely implemented fieldbus in the world.

Functional safety, wireless communications, and the standardization of connectors, cabling, and network devices were some of the topics covered at the event, organized by the Spanish Profibus/Profinet Association, and held at the Auditorium Hotel in Madrid.

Members of the association, as well as specialists from the industrial sector (engineers, technology consultants, professors, systems integrators, programmers, etc.), shared their expertise on this technology. Through live demonstrations, improvements for current and future installations using the PROFIBUS & PROFINET automation standard were also presented.

Network security, system fault detection, and the standardized structuring of the PROFIBUS/PROFINET architecture to meet the demands of customers and markets already operating under the criteria proposed by PROFIBUS International are among the other topics that will be addressed during these talks.

The sessions were designed to help attendees improve their existing implementations of this communication protocol or begin developing a coherent plan for new projects for their plants or devices.

PROFIBUS/PROFINET is a widely adopted standard in industry, particularly in the area of industrial automation. In fact, Spain is one of the few industrialized countries that did not yet have an association dedicated to promoting it. It is a commonly used technology in sectors such as the automotive industry, thanks to its advantages in productivity, maintenance, and cost savings. It is, in fact, the standard with the highest projected growth, at 8.7%, between 2008 and 2013.

Among the companies organizing the event, belonging to the Spanish Profibus/Profinet Association, were ABB, HARTING, LAPP GROUP, PHOENIX CONTACT, SIEMENS...
