Since 1994, the City of Stockholm has deployed a physical open fiber network through its own company, Stokab. Its mission is to promote optimal conditions for IT development and, consequently, the positive evolution of the Stockholm region. Stokab provides a competition-neutral infrastructure capable of meeting future communication needs, stimulating competition, promoting diversity, offering freedom of choice, and minimizing the need for underground construction in city streets.
The last six years have focused particularly on the deployment of FTTH (Fiber to the Home). Ninety percent of households in the City of Stockholm have access to fiber optic connections, as properties are already connected. The network covers the region with a very high density in the city of Stockholm.
