The TS-831X is designed as a solution for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) that require an affordable, fast, reliable, and high-bandwidth NAS to run a variety of professional applications, such as virtualization, data-intensive transmission, video storage and streaming, and IP video surveillance.
The TS-831X supports VJBOD (Virtual JBOD) and native support for QNAP's Container Station application, enabling organizations to quickly develop and deploy Internet of Things (IoT) applications.
The TS-831X utilizes a 1.4 GHz quad-core Annapurna Labs Alpine AL-314 ARM Cortex-A15 processor and features 8GB/16GB of DDR3 RAM (expandable to 16GB), RAID 5/6 support, hardware-accelerated encryption, and SSD caching. It offers 10GbE connectivity with two integrated 10GbE SFP+ ports and allows users to install a third 10GbE port via the additional PCIe slot for flexible high-speed network deployment.
QNAP's VJBOD is a network-based virtual JBOD that helps maximize NAS storage utilization. In addition to using physical storage expansion enclosures (such as the 8-bay UX-800P or 5-bay UX-500P), users can leverage the TS-831X's large capacity to cost-effectively expand the storage of another QNAP NAS via VJBOD and create virtual storage pools and volumes on virtual disks for NAS services. It provides a cost-effective way to utilize unused NAS storage and offers users an additional flexible storage expansion solution to maximize the utilization of total available storage.
QNAP's Container Station application uniquely integrates LXC and Docker® lightweight virtualization technologies. Users can run multiple isolated Linux® systems on the TS-831X and download applications from the integrated Docker Hub® Registry. With Container Station, the TS-831X provides an ideal private cloud platform for IoT, offering a vast array of containerized applications for developers to launch microservices and easily deploy, rapidly develop, and conveniently implement IoT applications.
The TS-831X is a complete storage solution for data storage, backup, sharing, and centralized management. It supports backup of Windows® and Mac® desktops and laptops, RTRR (Real-Time Remote Replication) with backup version control, rsync, and backup to cloud storage (Amazon® S3, Amazon® Glacier, Microsoft® Azure, ElephantDrive®, Dropbox®, and Google Cloud Storage™), as well as file sharing between Windows®, Mac®, and Linux®/UNIX®. The TS-831X can be used as a VPN server or VPN client to ensure network access.
