Kontron OM6090D/OM7090D: Robust MicroTCA platforms for multi-core processing and 10 Gbit/s switching

The new, robust Kontron MicroTCA OM6090D and OM7090D platforms, compliant with MTCA.1, are specifically designed for high-end AdvancedMCs and feature rear-mounted 10 Gbps Ethernet switching for maximum data speeds. In their maximum configuration, both systems can be equipped with up to 36 Intel Xeon processor cores and a total of 216 GB of RAM.
The 19-inch MicroTCA 6U modular platforms are redundant and conform to the MTCA.1 specification for applications with the highest demands for robustness, availability, and performance. Applications include infrastructure nodes for mobile telephony, public safety engineering, and the medical and military sectors. Typical applications include network point-in-a-box or Rural Utility Service for rural and remote communication systems supporting CDMA, GSM, 3G, and VoIP via HLR/HSS, RNC, and gateway applications. Kontron platforms are also applicable to rapidly deployable mobile networks, radar, sonar, and video data processing. These applications will benefit from the high computing power of hot-swap AdvancedMC modules and dual-star board-to-board switching starting at 1 Gbit/s.

The Kontron MicroTCA OM6090D and OM7090D platforms are based on the same compact chassis (266 x 428 x 365 mm), which is equipped with four rear-mounted exhaust fans. Both MTCA.1-compliant platforms provide nine double-width slots for AdvancedMC modules and two slots for redundant MicroTCA Carrier Hub (MCH) configurations (up to 80 watts). The Kontron OM6090D supports up to three pluggable AC-UPMs, offering balanced load. For redundant power control, the Kontron OM7090D can be configured with either two (one active + one in active standby) or three (two active + one in standby) power management modules.

Equipped with Kontron AdvancedMC modules, OEM customers can obtain application-ready platforms from Kontron at any time, all from a single source, dramatically reducing their time to market. The modules dedicated to the platforms are the KontronMicroTCA Carrier Hub AM4910, which supports 10 GbE Ethernet switching and CPU modules such as the Kontron AM5030 AdvancedMC processor module (Intel Xeon LC5518) or the Kontron AM5010 AdvancedMC processor module (Intel Core 2 Duo). The AMC slots can also accommodate Kontron AM5500 AdvancedMC storage modules, an MTCA.1 module with up to 1 terabyte of storage capacity that can also be equipped with solid-state drives (SSDs) as an alternative to two 2.5" SATA hard drives. The module is ideal for applications requiring high shock and vibration resistance. This allows the Kontron OM6090D and OM7090D to be configured as extremely rugged storage systems with a capacity of up to 9 terabytes. More customized AdvancedMC solutions for each customer can be developed on demand using 10 GbE, 1 GbE, PCIe x4, and SATA backplanes.
