The PTSS is a fully integrated system capable of providing timing accuracy comparable to that offered by the world's leading national laboratories. The main products integrated into the PTSS are:
• SyncSystem 4380A Time Scale Edition, which generates a self-contained time scale by combining several independent, high-accuracy clocks with a multi-channel instrument for measuring and comparing clock performance.
• Time Scale Orchestrator is a software platform that provides a unified view with a built-in database that integrates the management, monitoring, alarm, and reporting functions for each product that is part of the time scale system.
• The 5071A cesium clock primary frequency reference and the MHM 2020 active hydrogen maser are Microchip's atomic clocks that supply accurate and stable frequencies that are continuously measured against each other to calculate and generate the joint timescale frequency.
The PTSS system integrates the new range of timescale products into a complete solution that is supplied in a single rack and is guaranteed by a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) that exceeds the most demanding requirements.
The PTSS offers countries the ability to independently and efficiently manage their own timescale system, harmonized with UTC according to calculations by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, within their borders. Microchip's SyncServer® S600/S650 and TimeProvider® 4100 time servers are integrated into the system to provide Trusted Time™ to critical infrastructure via the Network Time Protocol (NTP) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP).
“Microchip’s PTSS system provides a high-quality backup or alternative to GNSS as a time source and can be distributed via eLoran, IEEE 1588 over fiber, bidirectional time transfer, and other methods,” said Randy Brudzinski, vice president of Microchip’s Frequency and Time Systems business unit. “Implementing an autonomous time source allows a country to control and leverage time as a utility to protect critical infrastructure such as transportation, the financial sector, communications, and electric utilities.”
As an alternative for customers building their own timescale systems, Microchip's timescale products can be purchased individually to provide core timescale functions, such as clock measurement and clock set generation, as well as system performance management, monitoring, and reporting. This system modularity allows timescalers to scale the system over time based on budget and technological advancements.
