For its R&S RTO oscilloscope line, Rohde & Schwarz created a special ASIC with real-time processing of digitized measurement results. Thanks to its parallel processing capabilities, this ASIC achieves an unprecedented processing speed, enabling the analysis of one million waveforms per second. Conventional oscilloscopes capture signals for only 0.5% of the acquisition cycle, but Rohde & Schwarz has extended the acquisition time by a factor of 20, raising it to 10%. Even with this high acquisition rate, all configuration options and analysis functions remain available without compromising measurement speed.
Rohde & Schwarz has also given a new approach to the triggering system. With the purely digital trigger architecture implemented for the first time in the new oscilloscopes, the trigger and the captured data share the same signal path and a common timebase. The result is very low trigger jitter and precise trigger mapping.
The low-noise input stage and single-core A/D converter integrated into the R&S RTO oscilloscopes also help ensure high accuracy. The converter operates at a sampling rate of 10 Gsamples per second and achieves an extremely high dynamic range of more than seven effective bits. The result is minimal signal distortion and low inherent noise.
Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes can be operated via their touchscreen, redefining the concept of ease of use. With semi-transparent dialog boxes, movable measurement windows, a configurable toolbar, and real-time waveform preview icons, users can perform even the most complex measurement tasks quickly and efficiently. The 10.4-inch touchscreen provides the perfect balance between user-friendliness and portability.
