Other compelling advantages include simple, tool-free assembly, minimal maintenance, and an attractive design.
Until now, when high airflow and a low-profile design were required in filter fans, axial fans were the preferred choice. However, when greater pressure stability was paramount, radial fans were the preferred option. Rittal now combines the technical advantages of both systems. With the new TopTherm filter fans, this manufacturer has achieved a clever synthesis of radial and axial fan technology, meeting all the aforementioned requirements.
In addition to the low-profile design, the decisive advantages are a steeper response curve and a higher operating flat zone. This results in greater pressure stability and consistent ventilation power over a wide range, even when the fan is mounted and operating under service conditions. Furthermore, the service life of the filter mats is extended without any loss of power.
This new fan technology is characterized by the fact that the air is not projected axially, as in previous models, but diagonally towards the outer edges. This promotes uniform air distribution within the enclosure or distribution cabinet and prevents the formation of hot spots.
Because no tools are required, these filter fans are easy to install, the airflow direction can be quickly reversed, and electrical connections and maintenance, such as replacing the filter mat, can be performed without difficulty. The dimensions of the mounting recesses are identical to those of previous models. Thanks to the proven snap-fit mounting system, the filter fans fit easily into the prepared mounting recess. For electrical connections, the standard screw terminals have been replaced with spring-loaded terminals, into which the cables or terminal sleeves are inserted without tools.
A new unlocking mechanism allows the grille to be folded forward and locked at an opening angle of approximately 70° for maintenance. This leaves both hands free to change the filter mat. For cleaning and replacing the filter mat, the grille can be completely detached by pressing a second locking mechanism. The procedure is the same for the outlet filters.
To increase power, several filter fans can be connected in series without any obtrusive joints between them. A filter fan with EMC shielding and an EcoComfort range are scheduled for release by the end of the year.
TopTherm filter fans are available in an expanded flow rate range, covering from 20 m³/h to 900 m³/h (previously the maximum was 700 m³/h). Power supply options include 24V DC or 115V, 230V, and 400V three-phase AC (50/60Hz).
