ITC-BT 28 (public assembly premises) establishes the obligation to use fire-resistant cables (AS+) for non-autonomous security services or services with centralized autonomous sources.
Electrical cables intended for non-autonomous safety service circuits or service circuits with centralized autonomous power supplies must maintain service during and after a fire, comply with the specifications of standard UNE-EN 50200, and have reduced smoke emission and opacity. Cables with characteristics equivalent to standard UNE 21.123 parts 4 or 5, section 3.4.6, meet the requirements for reduced smoke emission and opacity.
The CPR Regulation now establishes for reaction to fire, a categorization of different levels that is represented by a code of letters and numbers (class) for each set of tests that are passed.
And in particular the explanatory note on the application of the CPR to the REBT cites the following:
e) regulatory text in ITC-BT 028: Installations in public assembly premises.
The cables shall be of the minimum fire reaction class Cca-s1b,d1,a1. Cables with characteristics equivalent to those of standard UNE 21123, parts 4 or 5, or to standard UNE 211002 (depending on the rated voltage of the cable) comply with this requirement.
This means a minimum fire reaction class of Cca-s1b,d1,a1 is established for cables installed in public access buildings.
Prysmian's new Afumex Class Firs (AS+) fire-resistant cables for security services in public access buildings, now available in stock, meet this requirement, in addition to being fire-resistant according to UNE-EN 50200.
Compared to the traditional AS+ cable design, the new Afumex Class Firs (AS+) cables must pass more fire reaction tests and meet stricter requirements in pre-CPR tests. Control of smoke and heat generated, as well as incandescent particles released during combustion, are some of the new features. Furthermore, they are required to pass a type test at a notified body in the EU and undergo continuous factory production control.
