CODE RED is an innovative sealing encapsulant and application process—invented by Glenair—that provides a durable, airtight seal in a lightweight aluminum housing. Traditionally, glass-to-metal airtight seals have been used in the aerospace and petrochemical industries due to the strength and long-term durability of the materials. However, glass-to-metal airtight seals are significantly heavier, more expensive, and have high electrical resistance.
The cost-effective CODE RED hermetic connectors offer a completely hermetic seal, better than 1 x 10⁻⁷, in a lightweight aluminum housing (up to 50% weight savings compared to glass-to-metal hermetics) with low electrical resistance, gold-plated copper contacts. The use of conventional gold-plated copper alloy contacts significantly improves electrical performance.
CODE RED hermetic connectors are available in the Glenair SuperNine® connector ranges (D38999 Series III metal and composite types), Mighty Mouse Series 80, and M24308 D-Sub. Special non-magnetic versions (zero residual magnetism) are also available. The operating temperature range is from -65°C to +200°C.
