The UL-certified ETHERLINE® T1 Y Flex two-wire cable is ideal for high-speed data exchange, maintaining the same data rates while significantly reducing its size. Thanks to its small bend radius and small outer diameter, it is lightweight and easy to install—important qualities for field deployments.
This new cable is Power-Over-Data-Line compatible and compliant with IEEE 802.3bu. It is specifically designed to transmit digital signals in a frequency range up to 600 MHz over distances of up to 40 m. It allows for the simultaneous delivery of power and data to SPE terminals with low power consumption of up to 50 W. The SPE cable design ensures ideal protection against electromagnetic interference. Thanks to an aluminum foil and tinned copper braid shield, it features a high degree of shield coverage and a dual SF/UTP construction. Furthermore, the outer PVC jacket is resistant to acids, alkalis, and oils. UL/CSA certification allows the product to be used in the USA and Canada. It is also UL PLTC certified, meaning it can be installed in cable trays without additional shielding.
The new ETHERLINE® T1 Y Flex 1x2x22 / 7 AWG opens up new possibilities for the future of automation:
• Flexible use in dry and damp environments, as well as for medium mechanical stress.
• For structured cabling according to DIN EN 50173 and ISO/IEC 11801.
• For single-pair Ethernet applications – 1000Base-T1 according to IEEE 802.3bp and 100Base-T1 according to IEEE 802.3bw
The IEEE 802.3bp standard describes a physical layer that enables 1 Gbit/s over single-pair twisted-pair cables at distances of up to 40 m with shielded cables or 15 m with unshielded cables. Applications in factory automation include connecting devices requiring 1 Gbit/s speeds in the control cabinet or high-data-rate sensors, such as high-resolution imaging systems. Additionally, the IEEE 802.3bw standard also supports cable lengths of up to 100 Mbit/s.
“Single-pair Ethernet is an important technology for the future. But to achieve widespread market adoption, we need standardized and uniform connectors,” says Christian Illenseer, Product Manager for Industrial Communications at LAPP. He adds, “A single standard is needed to ensure component compatibility. We chose the SPE Industrial Partner Network partnership because we believe this standard has the best prospects for market success.”.
Two more cables will soon be available: the ETHERLINE® T1 FD P, a shielded cable with a 26AWG cross-section for Gigabit Ethernet and use in cable chains, and the ETHERLINE® T1 P FLEX 18AWG for 10 Mbit/s and distances of 1000m.
LAPP will also launch two more innovations in industrial communications:
1. ETHERLINE® FD Cat.6 Patch Cables: These patch cables are highly flexible for continuous-motion applications in cable carriers. They are fitted with M12 X-coded connectors and enable fast data exchange at speeds up to 10 Gbit/s over lengths up to 60 m thanks to their Cat.6 rating. An aluminum foil and tinned copper braid provide optimal protection against electromagnetic interference. Their construction includes a cross-shaped separator to protect the wire pairs from the cores, resulting in very high resistance to mechanical stress. The connector has integrated vibration protection to prevent accidental disconnection. The IP67 protection rating makes these patch cables suitable for connecting devices outside of electrical panels.
2. ETHERLINE® CAT.6A PROFINET Patch Cords for Electrical Panels: These patch cords feature small bend radii and are especially useful in confined spaces. They enable high-speed data exchange at up to 10 Gbit/s over 60 meters. The cords come with connectors on both ends, saving time and eliminating the possibility of assembly errors. The RJ45 connector is very small, making these patch cords ideal for devices with a high port density. Thanks to UL/CSA certification, they are also approved for the North American market.
