With the rapid expansion of wireless connectivity in industrial environments, companies are increasingly integrating 5G, LTE, and Wi-Fi 6 technologies to improve operational efficiency and real-time data exchange. However, the growing number of wireless devices presents challenges in managing connectivity, ensuring security, and optimizing performance across different technologies.
To address these challenges, Moxa is introducing its new 64-bit Arm-based PCs, designed with a quad-core processor, reliable dual wireless connectivity, simplified system software for easier development, IEC 62443-4-2 SL2 compliance, and a more than 10-year operating system maintenance plan that includes security patches and fixes. These PCs deliver exceptional performance with superior energy efficiency, enabling customers to securely scale their IIoT applications.
"Moxa is continuously investing in wireless communication technology, including Wi-Fi, cellular, and 5G, to ensure reliable cloud connectivity for edge computing devices, even in harsh industrial environments. Dual wireless connectivity guarantees uninterrupted data transmission, maximizing productivity in IIoT applications," says Ryan Teng, head of the wireless and Arm-based industrial computing segment.
The UC-4400A series, Moxa's first Arm-based 5G computer with ultra-low latency, high interface density, and enhanced reliability, powers real-time data processing and connects the largest number of devices to industrial applications. Expansion modules for Wi-Fi 6E connectivity improve bandwidth and significantly reduce interference, enabling faster data transmission. Furthermore, Moxa's partnership with Qualcomm for the Qualcomm Extended Diagnostics Monitor (QXDM) tool provides advanced log analysis and troubleshooting support to further improve the quality of wireless connections.
The UC-3400A and UC-4400A series offer the advantage of dual wireless connectivity, integrating cellular and Wi-Fi capabilities into a single computer. This combination ensures connection redundancy to maintain operational continuity even when one connection fails. The Moxa Connection Manager (MCM) utility provides seamless failover between cellular and Wi-Fi, enhancing system reliability. This makes the computers ideal for critical industrial applications requiring uninterrupted data transmission. Furthermore, load balancing can be used to optimize data traffic across both connections, further maximizing network performance and efficiency.
The UC-3400A and UC-4400A series have been tested and certified globally by UL, FCC, CE, and RCM, as well as by North American carriers PTCRB, AT&T, and Verizon (the UC-4400A series is expected to be certified in the second quarter of 2025). In addition, the UC-3400A series has been tested to meet ATEX and CID2 requirements in hazardous environments and is expected to receive certification in the second quarter of 2025. These certifications ensure secure and seamless data transmission across diverse industrial environments and regions.
Designed for harsh environments, the UC-3400A and UC-4400A computers can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 70°C and feature wireless capabilities. These computers are ideal for applications in the distributed energy resources, industrial automation, and oil and gas sectors. Backed by a 5-year product warranty and a 10-year operating system warranty, these products are designed for long-term reliability.
Compliance with IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 protects assets and saves time.
Moxa's UC-3400A and UC-4400A series computers running Moxa Industrial Linux (MIL3) and meeting the IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2 requirements can save users at least six months of development time for security features. The secure operating system includes Secure Boot, an integrated security mechanism that ensures edge computers boot only from a validated and authorized boot manager and operating system. A hardware root of trust, a hardware-based chain of trust validation sequence, safeguards the Secure Boot process and software updates, preventing unauthorized access to the system.
