These unmanaged switches, with their metal casing, fanless design, and high energy efficiency, are positioned as the ideal solution for networks requiring 2.5G connectivity, now common in NAS network hard drives and the latest generation of computers. Similarly, high-performance Wi-Fi 6 routers and access points need to be connected to 2.5G ports to avoid performance bottlenecks. D-Link also offers USB-C/USB to 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 LAN adapters, such as the DUB-E250 and DUB-2315 models, which allow for easy upgrades to any desktop or laptop thanks to their plug-and-play functionality.
Although these are unmanaged switches, designed for the network edge in small and medium-sized businesses or the digital home, they integrate intelligent performance enhancement features:
• IGMP Snooping, which optimizes IPTV applications (already present in most homes with pay-TV services), allowing multicast streaming traffic to flow only through the ports where the set-top box or Smart TV is connected, preventing it from spreading throughout the rest of the network. If IPTV traffic expands, it can negatively impact performance.
• Quality of Service (QoS) IEEE 802.1p and flow control IEEE 802.3x. QoS allows traffic to be classified into 8 priority levels, prioritizing different types of traffic according to their bandwidth requirements.
Another important factor is energy efficiency. The DMS-105 and DMS-108 integrate Eco-Friendly 802.3az EEE and D-Link Green Ethernet technologies. They reduce power consumption on unconnected ports or ports with no data traffic, and also adjust power consumption based on cable length. The high-density metal casing dissipates heat, eliminating the need for fans. This energy efficiency saves on electricity bills and extends the lifespan of internal components.
The D-Link DMS-105 and DMS-108 Multigigabit switches are now on sale with recommended retail prices of €153 and €220, respectively.
