The router offers simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and AX3600 connectivity and incorporates four internal antennas in a 4T4R MU-MIMO configuration, with a 40MHz channel width and Wi-Fi 6 standard.
It also has four internal antennas in a 4T4R MU-MIMO configuration and Wi-Fi 6 standard on the 5GHz band.
However, it lacks the triple VLAN support of Movistar FTTH, the main operator in our country. It also lacks per-port VLAN support for IPTV from different providers.
The FRITZ!OS operating system supports the 802.11k/v standards.
This router also incorporates Smart Connect to operate on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands as needed.
It supports both WPA2-Personal and WPA2/WPA3-Personal encryption.
A "Connect/WPS" button allows you to synchronize both Wi-Fi clients and other AVM devices to add them to the mesh network.
The guest Wi-Fi network allows you to configure OWE for security (with data encryption).
There is an SFP port with an SFP-to-GPON transceiver with an LC connector, and an XGS-PON transceiver is also available if required. This GPON port always acts as the WAN port for internet access. The firmware supports VLANs on the WAN, the ability to set an identifier for authentication with the OLT, and VoIP.
The router has a 2.5G Multigigabit port for the internet WAN, allowing it to be used as a standalone router. The firmware also allows the use of VLANs on this port's WAN connection, as well as VoIP. The speed on this port is lower than the Gigabit Ethernet ports included with the device.
We can configure the 2.5G Multigigabit port as LAN, using the SFP GPON port as WAN; the WAN port can be used as LAN to connect a NAS with a 2.5G port.
The device incorporates some noteworthy features such as:
MU-MIMO for transferring information to multiple WiFi clients simultaneously;
Target Wake Time to put WiFi clients into standby mode, saving power;
OFDMA to optimize the WiFi network for connecting multiple WiFi clients;
and Beamforming to focus the wireless signal on the clients.
With this router we can set up a high-performance WiFi Mesh network, using other routers, wireless repeaters and PLC devices, all from AVM.
It features four Gigabit Ethernet ports for speeds up to 1Gbps. Additionally, with firmware updates, LAN port 4 can be configured as a wired guest network.
Speeds on these ports exceed 100 Mbps.
The actual performance in a home LAN is optimal and the use of this router is highly recommended with its Gigabit ports or the 2.5G Multigigabit port in a home environment.
It has two high-performance USB 3.0 ports, which will allow you to achieve high performance when using NAS-type devices, where the read or write speed using these ports can exceed 260Mb per second.
It has two RJ-11 ports for connecting analog phones, and also a TAE connector. A DECT base station is built into the router for connecting up to six cordless phones from AVM or other manufacturers, as DECT is a standard. You can also connect FRITZ!DECT smart home devices such as smart plugs, smart bulbs, thermostatic valves, etc. The FRITZ!OS firmware has a dedicated section for managing these devices. Features

This FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber router has the same FRITZ!OS operating system in the latest version 7.50 or higher. This version stands out for having a very fast and user-friendly graphical interface, and more configuration options in the VPN section thanks to the incorporation of WireGuard.
Conclusions
In a LAN-WAN environment with hundreds of simultaneous connections, the router still exceeds 100 Mb/s, making it highly recommended for home use.
As mentioned, the Fritz!5590 Fiber can switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands depending on the optimal connection at any given time. Therefore, Wi-Fi performance can exceed 400 Mbps on the 2.4GHz band in locations close to the device, decreasing with distance and interference from other Wi-Fi users. Meanwhile, on the 5GHz band, it almost quadruples the performance of the 2.4GHz band.
On the 5GHz band, it performed exceptionally well, achieving real-world speeds exceeding 1,500Mbps—a true record for a home WiFi router. Currently, this is the fastest WiFi router we've tested to date. The decision to use either 80MHz or 160MHz channel width in this router has resulted in truly spectacular speeds. Furthermore, it also performed excellently in moderately distant locations, both in terms of actual speed and connection stability, so we have reason to celebrate.
Regarding the setup wizard, it is simpler than on other devices previously tested, guiding us through the FRITZ! firmware to quickly configure the internet connection step by step.
