The user experience is simple: once plugged in, the adapters connect automatically via automatic pairing and instantly turn any power outlet into an internet access point.
The new devolo Mesh WiFi 2 kits consist of two to three mesh Wi-Fi adapters (Starter Kit and Multiroom Kit) that provide complete network coverage throughout the home. Therefore, the router's Wi-Fi function can and should be permanently disabled. On most routers, this can be done with the push of a button. This good news will primarily benefit users of older routers, as they won't need to replace their current device with a new and expensive one to take advantage of the latest mesh features.
Instead, the Mesh WiFi 2 system handles all wireless data transmission, significantly improving the home network. The tri-band system transmits on the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequency bands and also uses G.hn (currently the fastest Powerline standard) as its backbone for stable data transfer over the home's electrical wiring.
Furthermore, the wireless home network is highly secure thanks to WPA3. The current WiFi Alliance security standard is based on the WPA2 protocol and, thanks to enhanced 128-bit encryption, offers robust protection against unauthorized access. This requires WiFi clients to support WPA3 encryption. For all other end devices, WPA2 protection remains available.
Wi-Fi mesh with autopilot: Access Point Steering
Mesh Wi-Fi represents a networked Wi-Fi environment with intelligent control. The devolo system guides end devices to the access points with the best possible connection for the specific device (Access Point Steering).
Similarly, why does conventional Wi-Fi perform so poorly when users move around the house, for example, from the living room to the kitchen? This is because end devices tend to remain connected to a single access point, which becomes a problem with smartphones, tablets, or laptops ("sticky clients"). In contrast, devolo's smart Wi-Fi network uses "Access Point Steering" to automatically switch end devices to the specific Wi-Fi access point with the strongest signal, thus ensuring that the connection is always optimized.
This feature is just one of the many mesh tools that help eliminate poor Wi-Fi signals. Meanwhile, end devices can switch access points faster thanks to Fast Roaming (Client Steering). Through beamforming, devolo access points can transmit data to end devices more accurately, thus optimizing connection quality. Another feature, Band Steering, is essentially the air controller for the devolo Mesh WiFi series. It ensures that receivers always use the optimal frequency band. When the 2.4 GHz band becomes too congested, the system automatically switches to the 5 GHz band, without any user intervention. The Mesh package is rounded out by Airtime Fairness. This further enhances network performance by fairly allocating the maximum available connection time to all end devices.
More fun for everyone: MU-MIMO.
Thanks to "multi-user, multiple-input, multiple-output" (MU-MIMO) technology, several end devices simultaneously receive optimal Wi-Fi connections. For example, MU-MIMO means multiple activities at once. You can stream your favorite TV series in the living room in smooth 8K resolution, while your kids climb the online leaderboard in their favorite video game, and at the same time, that important video conference in the home office takes place without a single interruption.
devolo Mesh WiFi 2 is now available in two different versions. The Starter Kit contains two adapters and is priced at €249.90 (VAT included). For larger living spaces, the devolo Mesh WiFi 2 Multiroom Kit offers three adapters and is priced at €369.90 (VAT included). The devices are compatible with devolo Magic Series products and all routers. devolo offers a 3-year manufacturer's warranty on all products. The devolo Home Network app is available free of charge for iOS and Android. It guides users step-by-step through the setup process and, after the initial setup, makes managing the home network incredibly easy. This makes cutting-edge technology accessible even to users with little or no experience working with networking technology.
The adapters support WiFi connection of home automation devices.
