These environments are experiencing a growing number of users with devices that increasingly demand more bandwidth, so D-Link recommends that any new wireless network project or upgrade be based on Wi-Fi 6 access points. D-Link has summarized all the advantages of the new protocol over the previous Wi-Fi 5 in a landing page with videos and technical eBooks, delving into the technical description of new features such as OFMDA, 1024-QAM, BSS Coloring, MU-MIMO, Target Wake Time, etc.
Another major technical advantage of Wi-Fi 6 is that it also operates on the 2.4 GHz band (the previous Wi-Fi 5 only operated on the 5 GHz band, dropping to Wi-Fi N on 2.4 GHz connections). Since the 2.4 GHz band is more efficient over long distances, this results in a significant performance increase in many cases. Furthermore, Wi-Fi 6 incorporates MU-MIMO uplink/downlink (the last version, Wi-Fi 5 Wave 2, also integrated MU-MIMO, but only for downlink), which, along with OFDMA and 1024-QAM, considerably reduces latency and increases throughput and capacity.
“Wi-Fi 6 is a technology that’s here to stay for many years as the benchmark for wireless networks in both the digital home and business environments, offering unprecedented connectivity,” says Antonio Navarro, Country Manager of D-Link Iberia. He adds, “In addition to this extensive portfolio of access points with the most advanced technology, we also offer the necessary switches for network connectivity, with several ranges featuring multi-gigabit ports, such as the DGS-1520 family, which integrates 2.5 Gigabit PoE ports ideal for deploying Wi-Fi 6 access points.”.
