“Our customers had been requesting an upgrade to our router range for a long time, but we wanted to offer them the best solution, both in terms of hardware and software, to ensure fast and secure connectivity,” explains Victor Wang, General Manager of Synology in Southern Europe. “The RT6600ax and the SRM upgrade form a team ready to tackle any challenge, enabling the configuration of multiple networks, guaranteeing secure access for all users, and facilitating VPN connections.”.

The RT6600ax is Synology's first Wi-Fi 6 certified router. This provides a more reliable Wi-Fi connection thanks to improvements in data encoding, beamforming, scheduling, and signal isolation. With a configurable 2.5GbE port for either WAN or LAN deployment, users can take advantage of multi-gigabit internet connections. They can also configure high-performance devices, such as a NAS, as well as high-speed wireless backhaul. Fast connection speeds and responsive operation are ensured by a 1.8GHz quad-core processor, even when multiple devices are connected and all features are enabled.

Tri-band technology works in conjunction with Smart Connect to optimize device distribution, eliminating data transmission bottlenecks. Support for the new 5.9GHz spectrum unlocks non-DFS 80Hz and 160Hz channels for a combined wireless throughput of 6.6Gbps, increased concurrent connections, and faster VPN server performance.

Building a Solid Network Foundation:

The RT6600ax runs on SRM 1.3, the latest version of Synology’s intuitive router operating system. With enhancements and added features that greatly expand network management capabilities, SRM 1.3 meets the demands for greater security and flexibility characteristic of today’s network environments. Currently, SRM 1.3 is only available on RT6600ax units, but it will be coming to other Synology routers, such as the MR2200ac and RT2600ac, later this year.

The option to create up to five independent networks, each of which can be assigned up to three Wi-Fi SSIDs, makes it easy to strengthen security when managing multi-purpose network environments. Furthermore, one-way firewall rules can be configured independently for each network. The goal is to limit connectivity to and from less secure devices, such as IoT equipment, while compatibility with the 802.1q standard simplifies integration into existing networks in router, AP, and mesh configurations.
Comprehensive tools for improving the internet in the future:
The latest SRM update also includes a suite of applications for web filtering, traffic control, and remote access to the new generation of Synology routers.

Secure access guaranteed for all users:
Profiles for different users can be configured to limit online time or block browsing when certain conditions are met. Devices assigned to the same profile will share the same set of internet access rules, eliminating the need for manual configuration. Specific network profiles are available for devices not belonging to any user but requiring internet access control and review, such as guest or new devices.

Parental control features include limiting internet usage time, either with a schedule or a quota-based system, and filtering entire categories of websites or specific domains using allow/block lists. It also facilitates restricting inappropriate search results with safe search options for YouTube, Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. Security is enhanced by blocking threats across the network using the DNS and IP threat intelligence database and compatibility with Google Safe Browsing.

Traffic control based on specific needs:

Available bandwidth can be distributed among connected devices, prioritizing a single client or application when specific needs arise. Historical and real-time data enables granular auditing, with automatically generated or on-demand traffic reports that can be easily shared in CSV or HTML formats.

VPN Plus: A Wide Range of Benefits.

Remote workers and hybrid teams can leverage SRM's suite of remote connectivity tools to access exclusive intranet websites directly from their browser (WebVPN). They can establish high-performance connections with a dedicated client across multiple protocols (SSL VPN); bridge multiple locations to easily share resources across different networks (Site-to-Site VPN); and enable remote operation of devices compatible with the RDP/VNC standard (Remote Desktop).

More Powerful Mobile Management.

DS Router is an updated version of SRM's companion mobile app, offering an enhanced network management experience from anywhere. Version 2.0 brings smartphone features previously exclusive to SRM, such as creating new wireless networks, configuring web filtering and parental controls, and setting up traffic control schemes, among others.
